Forgive me Oppo for I may have sinned. I may have ran a red light earlier today. I'm not sure. I was driving down a road that was new to me and I had some asshole riding my ass. The light turned yellow. I knew I couldn't make it but hitting the brakes would of had him inside my trunk. Right as I was reaching the line, it went red. There was a camera. I don't know if I made it.
How long would a ticket take if it got to me? Would they be able to review it and see that I had no chance of stopping? Is this ticket expensive and will it add points? How does this work? I haven't even had my license a week and this is what happens. Thanks!

Where are you?
The laws around these cameras are all over the place. In some places they aren't moving violations and are 100% unenforceable...
A lot of other places, there is hardly a review process and a quick call to a lawyer and it will be tossed out tomorrow and you just have to pay the lawyer the 1 hour minimum rate.
If you can find a way to do it, just get a lawyer. Save your self the points and get good advice for your corner of the world

I'm pretty sure that you might be able to contest it in court. I think it will take anywhere from a couple days, to a week. Anyways, the Oppo confessional booth is always open, Now, communion time.

What state do you live in? Some states have a 1 second "pass" on red light tickets.
I live in VA, I was in Maryland one day and in a somewhat similar situation (stop and get rear ended or try to make the yellow light) and it turned red as I was passing the line. Cop pulled me over a block down the road because I was going 4 over the limit. Ended up letting me go and telling me that I should stop next time it's yellow, and that Maryland has a one second leeway before the cameras snap a picture or something like that (first I ever heard of it).

I'm just pissed because that guy was so close to me... if I was going to slam the brakes, my Civic would have been toast. It was also a really short yellow... I'm just scared of the cost of this potential ticket

Just a tip!
I don't think you'll loose the license or anything close to that, unless the people looking at the footage have no sense of reality. You shouldn't worry man, my mate have done the exact same thing, and he didn't receive any ticket.

Yeah, my car was wrecked, just a couple days ago. The cost shouldn't be excessively high, and if he was riding your ass, then the camera might not have even gotten your plates, unless he stopped at the light.

I'm just really worried since I do not actually know if I did in fact run it or not.. it was so damn close. I'd be okay if I knew I ran it but I really don't.

Did this car that was tailgating you follow you through the light? if so it's likely that car will be getting the ticket. either way you should know in about three weeks.

Some guy had his ticket dismissed by claiming the 5th and 6th amendments.

I know the feeling! Its pretty gut-wrenching, and annoying as f*ck. Well, how close were you to the stop line when the light turned yellow? Because everyone have booted it on a taxi-green.

No he didn't.. he slammed on the brakes and stopped with like a 1/4 of his truck sitting in the intersection... and the anticipation is killing me since I don't know if I made it in time or not.

The picture the camera took should show what the situation was.

Next time do it in New Jersey. The only cameras that are still active are not run by the state, but by a third party. I know people who have never responded, and nothing has happened regarding it. They are not run by any law enforcement agency, so they have no grounds to pursue.
Obviously other states are different, and I believe a couple NJ towns have locally operated cameras, but its a very small number.

I guess the next question would be did you see the flash from the camera? that flash is hard to miss. if you didn't see the flash you're probably fine.
